Make your own vanilla

So easy, although it does take time for it to develop. If you make it now you will have it ready at Christmas.

You need Vodka... the cheap stuff is fine, you won't know the difference. You need vanilla beans, I was not able to find any around here.... I live 3 miles east of nowhere so I ordered mine online through amazon. You will also need something to put the vanilla and vodka in. I happen to have canning jars so that is what I am using.

Feel your jar with the vodka ... not too full.

This is a close up of the vanilla bean pod. Inside of these are MILLIONS of tiny little vanilla beans!

So you use a knife and split the bean.. and run the knife down the inside... see all the tiny tiny beans?

Then put the beans and the pods in the vodka... and give it a little shake.

All done, now set it aside somewhere and in about 2 months you will have wonderful vanilla. The good thing is you control how strong your vanilla is by how much you add and how long you let it set.

So much cheaper than the stuff you buy at the store!
